I love japanese food and when I came to London I did not realize how expensive it was to eat fresh fish on an island.  So I have decided that you either have to eat at a Japanese restaurant owned, run and inhabited by Japanese business men OR pay exoberant amounts of money for good raw fresh fish. 

I searched the city to find such a restaurant with the right vibe for this meal to take my friend to who was kind enough to let me stay with her for 10 days last year and we had  fabulous meal. The cod, buckets of sashimi and the rice with crab were fabulous.  We did not have a reservation, waited in the bar and had a drink first and luckily got into the restaurant at 20:00 and finished a couple hours later. I agree this restaurant is pretentious but sometimes you just need some good raw fish. When you eat really good fish, it truly makes you happy inside ;]
